Excavator asking for a regen every six hours — normal for idle-heavy work?

Machine sits at low idle a lot — utility work, waiting on the crew in the trench more than digging. It now wants a parked regen roughly every six hours and the operator is losing patience.

Is this just the aftertreatment doing what it does with low exhaust temps, or is something actually wrong?

Mostly it is the duty cycle. Low idle never gets the exhaust hot enough for passive regen, so soot loads up and you get forced into parked regens.

Get the operator to hold a higher idle when waiting instead of dropping to low. It burns a bit more fuel and saves you the downtime.
